The Voss Gondola opened in 2019. The lower station is at the travel hub by Voss railway station (56 metres above sea level), and the top station is at Hangurstoppen (820 metres), next to the top of the express lift.
The location by the railway station makes it easy to travel up the mountain in an environmentally friendly way. You can reach Voss easily by train from both Oslo and Bergen – and from Bergen station it takes about 1.5 hours from boarding the train until you are at the top of Hangurstoppen, ready for summer or winter adventures.
A tribute to Dinglo and Danglo
The old cable car cabins Dinglo and Danglo were a landmark of Voss for more than 50 years. In their honour, five of the new gondola cabins are painted red like Dinglo, and four are yellow – the original colour of Danglo.
Activities and Voss's largest restaurant
At the top station you will find areas for recreation and activities. In summer you can go hiking (short and long), biking and paragliding, and in winter you step straight into the ski resort – one of the largest in Western Norway – with ski school and ski rental at the top station.
Hangurstoppen Restaurant at the top station seats 450 people, making it the largest restaurant at Voss. It serves hot and cold food and drinks based on local ingredients and suppliers, and has meeting facilities for about 50 people. Read more in our cultural guide to Voss. The largest and most modern mountain gondola
The Voss Gondola is a so-called 3S system: it runs on three ropes – two track ropes and a haul rope – which makes it very stable compared with gondolas that hang from a single cable. The free span from the lower station to the first tower is 900 metres. Only two kinds of lifts can have spans that long: gondolas like this one, with many cabins on the same rope, and aerial tramways where one cabin goes up while the other comes down, like Ulriksbanen in Bergen.
